Mary Ann Vazquez BSDH, RDH has been a clinical dental hygienist since 1996; receiving education and training from Delaware Technical and Community College and Northern Arizona University. She is dedicated to treating and educating patients of all ages about prevention of dental disease. She presently works at Hooksett Family Dental and is actively writing dental hygiene procedural protocols. Prior to her dental hygiene career, Mary Ann proudly served in the United States Air Force as an Inventory Management/Logistics specialists. In her spare time, Mary Ann enjoys watching New England sports teams, spending time at the beach, and making memories with her family. She can be contacted by email at [email protected].
Course Description:
Have you ever reviewed a patient’s chart and found the last case notes incomplete or missing? If a patient asks you why treatment was recommended will you or any member of the dental team be able to explain the patient’s specific needs?
As dental hygienists, we are legally bound to thoroughly and accurately document the procedures performed and treatment recommended during the dental hygiene appointment. The American Dental Hygiene Association’s Standards for Clinical practice is the foundational resource for our clinical care. This CE course will outline key components of dental hygiene’s standard of care, as well as, elements of documentation essential for providing continuity of care from the entire dental team. Time management plays a role in providing exceptional care to the patient, but is it also essential to create an accurate legal representation of all completed components of the dental visit.
At the conclusion of this course participants will be able to:
- Understand the importance of communication and accurate
- Identify all elements of the American Dental Hygiene Association’s Standards for Clinical Dental Hygiene Practice.
- Reflect on the legal importance of accurate case notes in preparation for litigation for malpractice.
- Improve documentation by utilizing dental software templates to record critical components of the dental hygiene appointment.
- Incorporate New Periodontal Classification Stages and Grading into documentation.
- Learn strategies for effective time management of the dental hygiene visit.
- Learn to increase value of the hygiene appointment with purposeful conversation.
