Course Description:

Does having periodontal disease increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, adverse pregnancy outcomes, cancer, or even Alzheimer’s Disease? Multiple studies have found periodontitis is associated with cardiovascular disease. Recent findings in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute found that severe periodontitis was associated with a 24% increased risk for cancer. This course will review the current evidence on the link between oral and systemic health, and provide talking points for communicating this information to patients.

Carol Jahn, RDH, MS is the Director of Professional Relations & Education for Water Pik, Inc. She has been providing continuing education courses for more than 25 years. Carol is an author, speaker, and industry leader and has published numerous articles and contributed to several textbooks.

Course Description:

Dental professionals face various challenges in preventing exposure to pathogens, which includes complying with regulations, training the team, ensuring cleanliness and sterilization, managing costs, and implementing effective communication and documentation processes. These tasks play a vital role in maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff. Noncompliance with dental infection control protocols is not an option and can have severe repercussions, such as infections to patients or team members, legal and financial penalties, and harm to reputation resulting in loss of revenue and patients.  In this course, we will review OSHA and CDC protocols and key strategies for applying infection control effectively.
